A ‘magical’ day for Prem as locals and industry support Broxbourne Service Station launch
Independent retailer Prem Uthayakumaran enjoyed a ‘magical’ day last week celebrating the official launching of Broxbourne Service Station following two years of developments to squeeze the most out of the traditional site in Hertfordshire.
The event attracted great interest from customers as well as industry executives, including PRA executive director Gordon Balmer, with official ceremonies conducted by local mayor Paul Seeby.
The site comprises a service station and tiny convenience store, in a residential area off the busy High Road Wormley A117, between Cheshunt and Broxbourne, just north of junction 25 of the M25. Prem – a former MFG contract manager – took over it over, his first as an independent retailer in March 2020...
Making a Difference Locally Event at Crossroads service
Everyone one of you, Thanks so much for help us out regardless how cold it was yesterday and long travelling to our site.
It is a second event held by Prehybrid within 6 months and yesterday was particularly a fund raising day rather than a site opening day.
I am so pleased to see & hear the well wishing regardless of attending the event but provide support and helping hands on occasions like this purely for the purpose of helping a local cause and this a proof we are just not a petrol station we can certainly do more & more to the community surrounding us.
The event made lots of customer interaction for a site under new management for just about a year and reached more than 1000 interactions on social media & online platforms. So we did reach many beyond the foot print of the store.

ONSITE: Prem Uthayakumaran gives Broxbourne Service Station a new lease of life
Taking on his first independent site, Broxbourne Service Station, just as the pandemic took hold, has not dimmed the ambition of Total dealer Prem Uthayakumaran.
At the beginning of March last year, the charismatic Prem Uthayakumaran was excited to be taking over his first site as an independent retailer.
Driving home in his car, listening vaguely to news about a handful of cases of the Covid-19 virus in the UK, he had no idea that within a few weeks the country would be in lockdown and all his plans somewhat diverted.
He had just taken over the lease of Broxbourne Service Station in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire. The site comprised a service station and convenience store, in a residential area off the busy High Road Wormley A117, between Cheshunt and Broxbourne, just north of junction 25 of the M25.

Forecourt retailer redevelops two service stations to Nisa fascia stores
Prem Uthayakumaran, Director at Pehybrid Ltd, now runs three Nisa fascia service stations; Broxbourne Service Station in Hertfordshire and recently developed sites Crossroads Service Station and Eastfield Service Station in Nottinghamshire.
Prem said: “We have seen a difference with Nisa’s approach to independent retailers and especially with Nisa’s investment in reducing the cost of prices of essential lines, which are all appealing factors.”
Both sites now offer an extensive range of products including Rollover Hotdogs, Costa Coffee, and a large range of food to go offering, with 25% of both stores now dedicated to hot food to go.
Victoria Lockie, Head of Retail at Nisa, said: “Nisa is working with some fantastic forecourt retailers at the moment and Prem certainly fits that description. The new forecourts in Nottinghamshire are brilliant and to hear this is converting into a steady growth in sales is fantastic. Congratulations to Prem, his team and the teams at Nisa for all the support the stores have received to make this possible.”
We partnered with NISA
That means we now sell Co-op products too. We deliver convenience that is tailored to local customers.
